Weldon’s 324S Midas OD Pinion Grinder

A South Carolina based power transmission company adds another Weldon model 324S Midas angular wheeled CNC Grinder to their grinding department. This fully automated cell features a Jenoptik optical gage for post-process inspection, providing feedback to a Movomatic in-process gage for automatic control of size tolerance to under 10 microns, and dramatically reducing both set-up and change-over time.

Weldon’s Midas Bearing Roller OD Grinder

1047BlogPicA major rotary bearing manufacturer called on Weldon to build a roller OD grinder for a large bearing family. The machine features an X-axis linear motor for smooth transitions when grinding the crowned OD with a convex grinding wheel face in a single pass profile interpolation cycle. This allows grinding of all part numbers with the same tooling.

Weldon Midas Automated Peel Grinding Application

Midas_Peel_Grinder_01An automative steering gear manufacturer receives two new Weldon Solutions model 320S Midas peel grinders to perform finish grinding operations on various work shafts and racks.

Weldon’s automation set-up on this system incorporates a heavy-duty 2-axis gantry load and unload, dual gripper tooling with a pneumatic coupling for crash protection and a powered loop conveyor with puck system for part presentation and exit.

The Latest Weldon Midas CNC Grinder Model

A Midwestern manufacturer of braking systems upgrades their grinding capability with a new Weldon model 120S Midas CNC Grinder.  This machine allows them to grind two pins on a crankshaft in one operation in a CNC pin-chasing mode where the grinding wheel follows the part as it rotates to stay in contact with the eccentric pins.  The result is improved productivity and better quality control.  The new Midas will replace one of the user’s 22 year old Weldon model 614 grinders that featured a conventional pot fixture for grinding one pin per operation.

Dressing is accomplished with a workhead spindle mounted diamond roll, eliminating the need for a dresser motor and control.

The part is clamped and driven by a collet system, with tailstock for support.  In this operation there is no need to off-set the pin in a pot fixture before grinding.

A probing system is used for lateral positioning and to establish radial position of each pin.  The probe also serves to verify that the proper part has been loaded.
