The Latest Weldon Midas CNC Grinder Model

Posted on: October 24th, 2013 by Rick Holberg

A Midwestern manufacturer of braking systems upgrades their grinding capability with a new Weldon model 120S Midas CNC Grinder.  This machine allows them to grind two pins on a crankshaft in one operation in a CNC pin-chasing mode where the grinding wheel follows the part as it rotates to stay in contact with the eccentric pins.  The result is improved productivity and better quality control.  The new Midas will replace one of the user’s 22 year old Weldon model 614 grinders that featured a conventional pot fixture for grinding one pin per operation.

Dressing is accomplished with a workhead spindle mounted diamond roll, eliminating the need for a dresser motor and control.

The part is clamped and driven by a collet system, with tailstock for support.  In this operation there is no need to off-set the pin in a pot fixture before grinding.

A probing system is used for lateral positioning and to establish radial position of each pin.  The probe also serves to verify that the proper part has been loaded.

System features:

  • Monlan fabric style coolant filtration
  • Weldon ring style dresser
  • Dittel acoustic emissions sensor and automatic wheel balancer
  • Heidenhain rotary and linear glass scales
  • Renishaw  probe/locator
  • Fanuc 310i T CNC control and X axis linear motor

Weldon Solutions offers a full line of CNC OD, ID, and combination grinders. As a Fanuc Robotics integrator Weldon can also address your machine tending, material removal, material handling, and packaging/palletizing needs.

Weldon Automated AGN4 CNC Grinder for Pin Match Grinding

Posted on: October 23rd, 2013 by Rick Holberg

AGN4_Auto_Grinder_03A major Fuel Injection System manufacturer chooses the Weldon Solutions model AGN4 with turnkey automation for armature to pin match grinding

Weldon designed dual robotic automation turnkey with one robot tending the pre-gage station that measures the armature counter-bore depth. The second robot tends the grinder that grinds the pin end face to precisely match the output from the armature gage to a 5 micron total tolerance. Part presentation and exit via pallet tray designed to keep parts in matched pairs.

System features:

  • Dual Fanuc 200i 6-axis robots
  • Schunk dual gripper assembly
  • SBS automatic wheel balancer
  • Dittel acoustic emissions sensor
  • Etamic pre-process and in-process sizing gages
  • Fanuc 0i TD CNC control
  • Microcentric precision air chuck

Weldon Solutions offers a full line of CNC OD, ID, and combination grinders. As a Fanuc Robotics integrator Weldon can also address your machine tending, material removal, material handling, and packaging/palletizing needs.

Weldon Accomplishes Roll Die Pass Grinding with 1632 Gold

Posted on: October 20th, 2013 by Rick Holberg

1632_GOLD_Grinder_01A world leader in the production of titanium tubing for the Aerospace and Medical industries selects Weldon Solutions for roll die pass grinding. This complex CNC grinding process was originally developed on the users first Weldon grinder, installed over twenty five years ago and still in production today. The improved hardware and faster controls have combined to increased productivity up to 50%.

A Weldon-designed cross-axis pneumatic rotary dressing system generates a full radius on conventional abrasives.

A Renishaw probe is used to establish lateral position with part mounted on a custom between centers arbor. The probe is also used to measure the OD for automatic depth control.

This unique application requires grinding of the roll pass surface for an increasing radius value through the full pass length.

System features:

  • SBS automatic wheel balancer
  • Weldon pneumatic rotary dresser
  • Dittel acoustic emissions sensor
  • Heidenhain rotary and linear glass scales
  • Renishaw probe/locator
  • Fanuc 32i AT CNC control

Weldon Solutions offers a full line of CNC OD, ID, and combination grinders. As a Fanuc Robotics integrator Weldon can also address your machine tending, material removal, material handling, and packaging/palletizing needs.
